Night Dad EP is the fourth release from London electronic music producer Galaxy Brain.

The EP is a love letter to late 80s and early 90s deep house.

Named after a Korg M1 patch, title track ‘Night Dad’ takes cues from Italy, with its swooping portamento synth pads, melodic bleeps and sultry whispered vocals. ‘Aurora’ explores the jazzy side of house, pairing lush cymbals, atmospheric pads and shimmering arpeggios with a bouncy kick and warm bass. ‘Galaxy’s Revenge’ is a bass-propelled banger, combining moody choir pads and melancholic pianos with a euphoric groove, complete with snare rolls, cymbal crashes and finger snaps. Closing the EP on a joyful note, ‘JDX00’ fuses skittering Chicago-inspired drums with playful FM boogie bass, uplifting electric pianos and melodic chimes.

Galaxy Brain creates otherworldly dance music. Taking inspiration from the eclectic influences of classic house, boogie funk and 80s sci-fi B-movies, she demonstrates a deep love of melody and strong groove, resulting in a unique sound that is as suited to home listening as the dancefloor.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
